Project overview

We are looking for a talented and experienced Forestry Scientist to assist with various analytical tasks related to forest ecosystems, forest management, forest monitoring. This freelance role involves data analysis, ecological assessment, and providing insights to support our forest management initiatives. The goal is to improve management of targeted forest division in India for enhanced ecosystem services..

Responsibilities:

Data Analysis:

  • Conduct hydrological analysis, including water regime, quality, seasonal availability, and assessments of dependency on forest resource.
  • Perform plantation suitability analysis for timber species such as teak.
  • Analyze fire susceptibility and risk in forested areas.
  • Execute micro-classification of forest types based on Shannon diversity indices.
  • Assess habitat enrichment and improvement opportunities.
  • Analyze migratory and invasive species patterns.
  • Evaluate Non-Timber Forest Products (NTFP) resource availability and regeneration rates.
  • Correlate household data with NTFP data from plot enumeration.
  • Analyze plantation yield and bamboo regeneration.
  • Calculate stream flow indices and water vicinity tables (hydrology).

Ecological Assessment:

  • Identify sites for eco-restoration based on established criteria and indicators.
  • Analyze patterns of eco-restoration plantations in degraded forests.
  • Correlate degradation with flagship species pressure.
  • Identify target vegetation and fire-prone areas.
  • Prioritize conflict mitigation areas.
  • Assess resource availability for Human-Wildlife Conflict (HWC) management.
  • Recommend soil moisture conservation measures for specific locations.
  • Identify priority areas for the removal of invasive species.
  • Conduct vulnerability assessments of micro-habitats, focusing on High Biodiversity Value Areas (HBVA).

Requirements:

  • Proven experience in forestry science, ecology, or a related field.
  • Strong background in data analysis and environmental research.
  • Familiarity with hydrological analysis, species assessment, and forest management practices.
  • Ability to work independently and deliver high-quality reports.
  • Proficiency in relevant software tools for data analysis and mapping.
  • Excellent communication skills to present findings clearly.
