Course Introduction
Municipal organizations require accurate and up-to-date field information for managing assets, infrastructure, public facilities and inspection activities. Traditional paper-based and disconnected field surveys can make data collection, validation, synchronization and integration with GIS systems difficult.
Digital Field GIS provides an integrated approach for capturing spatial and attribute information directly in the field using mobile devices and structured digital forms.
This two-day practical training introduces participants to a digital field GIS workflow for municipal data collection and inspection using:
- QGIS for GIS data preparation and field project configuration
- VistaCollector for digital field data collection
- VistaStore for centralized storage and management of collected field data
Participants will learn how to prepare field projects, design forms and attributes, capture GPS locations, collect photographs and documents, validate field information, work offline and synchronize collected data with the central system.
The training concludes with a simulated municipal asset/inspection survey and review of the collected information in a Web GIS environment.
The course follows an end-to-end workflow:
