GeoServer Training

Publish, Manage and Serve Geospatial Data on the Web

GeoServer is a powerful open-source server for publishing geospatial data and making it accessible through standard web services. It is widely used for building enterprise GIS, Web GIS applications and spatial data infrastructures.

This practical training introduces participants to GeoServer and takes them through the complete workflow of connecting spatial databases, publishing layers, applying styles and exposing geospatial data through OGC-compliant services.

What Will You Learn?

  • Introduction to GeoServer and Web GIS
  • GeoServer architecture and components
  • Installation and configuration
  • Workspaces, Stores and Layers
  • Connecting GeoServer with PostgreSQL/PostGIS
  • Publishing vector and raster datasets
  • Coordinate Reference Systems
  • Layer styling and SLD
  • WMS, WFS and WCS
  • Layer Groups
  • GeoWebCache and tiled services
  • GeoServer REST API
    • GeoServer security and access control
    • Integration with OpenLayers
    • GeoServer administration and optimization

Hands-on Exercises

Participants will work with real-world spatial datasets and build a complete publishing workflow:

PostGIS → GeoServer → WMS/WFS → Web GIS

The exercises will include creating a workspace, connecting a PostGIS database, publishing layers, applying styles and consuming the services in a Web GIS application.

Who Should Attend?

  • GIS Professionals
  • GIS Developers
  • Web GIS Developers
  • Software Developers
  • Spatial Database Professionals
  • Government GIS Teams
  • Engineering Students
  • Researchers

Prerequisites

Basic understanding of GIS and spatial data is recommended. Prior experience with GeoServer is not required.

Duration

2–3 Days

Training Mode

Online | Offline | Corporate / Institutional

Learning Outcome

By the end of the training, participants will be able to configure GeoServer, publish spatial datasets, create OGC services and integrate GeoServer with Web GIS applications.

Duration: 2 days

Mode: Both Online & Offline
